I’ve seen my share of student fashion shows – some good, many woefully underdeveloped, under-designed and under the barre of well executed. But The Art Institute of New York City’s fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week’s The Stage decimated most of these expectations yesterday at the show it underwrote for a number of its current and graduated students, a couple of whom could have been ready for Project Runway’s endeavor on the runway today.
My fave – and obviously the crowd-pleaser by the crowing applause coming from behind my seat – was Michael Doyle’s architectural can-can and Victorian-inspired dresses styled with hats with feet-long pheasant feathers tripping along each of his lovely creations.
Bravo! Here’s to a long, successful run, Michael. Designers, are you listening (Ralph Lauren, I’m thinking of you)?!
