Sleek + Chic: Seeing Clearly at NYMD SS19

New York Men’s Day Spring/Summer 2019 kicked off in style this past Monday with much fanfare and fantastic fashions. The best? Clear and present…the rain slicker, as designers permutated the look of the standard nasty elements style into something chic, sleek and as wearable as a shirt.

Maybe it was waterproof, maybe it wasn’t. Who cares? These unmistakable winners take transparency to a whole next level of dressing. Clearly.

Grungy Gentleman at NYFW: Men’s, Autumn/Winter 2018

Sporty, athletic and relaxed summed up the looks from Jace Lipstein’s Grungy Gentleman menswear brand showing during New York Fashion Week: Men’s. Even when the clothing in question was tailored, like a handful of the sports coats shown. And why not? When you dress, design for, hell design with professional ballers, that’s the attitude that shines through.

Sanchez-Kane and the Lure of Sexx Toys

The covered art pieces on the runway prior to the show should have been a give away, if you didn’t already get the idea from the invitation. Artisanal sex toys?! Is there really such a thing?!

Sanchez-Kane Apparently, in Sanchez-Kane Mexico’s world. From the show liner notes that offered “Find your group of misfits and levitate together” to the plaster-of-paris penises Continue reading

Men’s Style Day 1: New York Men’s Day

The quick spots shining on the models switching out atop small box platforms for the Krammer & Stoudt show during Monday afternoon’s New York Men’s Day session were disturbingly and frustratingly fast. After speaking to co-designer Mike Rubin, who said his wife, co-designer Courtenay Nearburg, wanted it that way and that snappers would get the picture if they were good enough photographers, I was still in the dark.

Krammer & Stoudt

It took me until after leaving the show to “get the picture.” The teasing, almost strobing effect of the spotlights highlighted (or obscured) the fact that all the Continue reading

New York Men’s Day – A/W2017 Part 2

Last week’s New York Men’s Day afternoon session had a lot to say. The looks were wearable, street savvy and creative, with a definite message to the medium — and to the political world at large. Wood House took a stab at a twisted nursery rhyme. By Robert James kept the Women’s March and protestation moving, while Private Policy went straight for the political jugular, with a racial mix of models, a “suit” of flags and words like “terrorist” temporarily tattooed on foreheads.

MensWearNetwork Gets Sweet at Maple NYC

What a way to welcome in the Autumn/Winter 2017 menswear season.

This past Tuesday night saw a wonderfully warm, intimate gathering at Maple NYC for the first MensWearNetwork event of 2017. Many dropped by after the MRKET / Vanguards Gallery show, among the other menswear market trade week shows of that day like Project and Liberty, and had quite positive things to say about the industry showcases, new fashions and crowds. Even in the nasty weather, many came to represent – designers, marketing execs, stylists, editors and the like. Really great to see, meet, re-greet the new, refreshing faces to the evening.

Looking forward to New York Men’s Day next week. Who’s ready for the gauntlet of wild fashions as the true style mavens walk this way?!

It May Be NYFW, But Don’t Forget About Menswear!

Bjorn Nasett, my fashion buddy (and general all-around great guy; you NEED to know him, too!) shared my menswear trend wrap up ideas with his Amazing Goodwill readers recently. As NYFW swings into full force this weekend, here’s a little wrap-up rewind of menswear love to balance out the women’s runway offerings!

His Men in Havana: Nick Graham’s SS17 Menswear Collection

Hey guys, cue the salsa music, shake a leg and get ready to cut a sisal rug for Spring Summer 2017 (or today, since it’s going to be HOT AS HELL again). At least you’ll have great fashion for it, considering last month’s NYFW:Men’s shows, in particular Nick Graham’s.
