Bene, Bene! Bene Rialto Opening Party is Good…So Good

What a difference a few weeks makes!

Bene Rialto Launch Party

You may remember the then-under-construction Bene Rialto (see my earlier post here). The hybrid marketplace/retailer/wholesaler/party space/art gallery and whatever else it may end up being over time was in the throes of building out its interiors, as well as building up its list of designers to showcase within its exposed-brick walls offset by huge picture windows looking out toward the Empire State Building.

Last night, Bene Rialto founder and former Saks Fifth Avenue V.P. Caryn Neary fêted her new midtown marketplace concept shop with an exuberant launch party — and the festivities were bene, molt bene. Party-goers were treated to about 40 emerging brands, mostly accessories, displayed like tasty fashion treats tucked throughout the three floors of the narrow jewel box former button and trim building around the corner from Lord & Taylor. The top two floors of the entire five stories are reserved for showroom appointments, special events and other activities.

Guests included fashion designers Malan Breton, Dana Glaeser (Slightly Alabama) and home interior designer Michael Arguello, as well as many of Ms. Neary’s former Saks colleagues, like Michael Macko, spotted on the third floor.

When I was there almost a month ago, the view from inside the still-under-construction new shopping venue Bene Rialto, which means “Good Marketplace” in Italian, was stunning, even without the excitement and flutter of new up-and-coming designers and their wares that the department boutique is going to spotlight. (My pictures show Bene Rialto’s venue under construction, but the “department store boutique” should be well under way by now.)

Bene Rialto CEO Caryn Neary, who hails from a tenure including Saks Fifth Avenue as well as her own former Hell’s Kitchen boutique Bump-to-Baby, underscores Bene Rialto as “an innovative marketplace,” that will showcase independent fashion brands, as well as food and art.

This new kind of department store, smack in the middle of the New York garment district, is right around the corner from Lord & Taylor. Get ready to welcome not only new fashion brands, but also emerging chefs, artisans, and teachers and the like. And be prepared to graze, meet and connect. “Our goal is to foster an environment of creativity and learning, taking a brand to the next level,” Caryn and the Bene Rialto website say.

Event space on the top two floors of the five stories, Bene Collective, will host showroom areas for a limited number of brands, with a membership option available. Brands may choose to participate in industry wide events, classes, presentations and more. The bottom three floors, Bene Rialto proper, will house a unique mix of new designers with the store providing online presence to showcase new brands’ collections direct to consumers as well as the trade.

Stay tuned…and check back in to read all about the opening party set for the 23rd!
