The Comme des Garcons archival sample sale started last Friday and I was an idiot to wait until Monday to go. I was under the impression that, since they said they would be restocking and replenishing each day, that the pieces that were there on Friday would also be there on the last day, when I went. What was I thinking?! Rei Kawakubo is a brilliant design genius and I should’ve gone immediately, visited multiple times and bought way more!
I went in search of the perfect drop-crotch pant in cotton – the one that everyone and anyone who will give me the time of day knows that I’ve been searching for since last summer and keep buying various styles that are similar but not quite filling the bill. Why don’t I just get the damn ones that I know will make me happy and then I can stop wasting all this time and effort looking for them and get on with my life?!!! Does anyone else go through this fashion OCD B.S. like I do?!
Anyway, I found two pairs of marvelous pants, one the wide-legged beauties I’m wearing above (I don’t think I can take them off, they’re so comfy, casual + cool) and a chino-like pair that have an attached organza and silky overskirt. The major flaw of my shopping excursion was that I didn’t go for it and spring for a jacket. It was starting to get crowded as we moved closer to lunch hour and the music was a pounding, blaring dance club mix that was driving me slowly insane, so I began to get cray-cray. My friend wanted to go and I was hurrying, trying to make decisions, aping at other shoppers’ delights and poorly calculating the 70%-off pricing. It’s hard to hold a huge nylon bag of CDG goodies, try on a jacket in front of a mirror populated by 20 other women stripped down to their skivvies and figure out if $500 or more for a CDG jacket is worth it. I should have screamed at myself, “YES! IT IS!!!!” What was I thinking?! Look at the two below.
I needed my expert Comme des Garcons-wearing, dyed-in-the-Japanese-boiled-wool friend Joni to be there shopping with me to tell me what to get. Too bad she was on a fashion-sales road trip. Fortunately for her, I got her a little sumpin-sumpin from the sale for her upcoming birthday! Unfortunately for both of us, it wasn’t one of the stunning CDG jackets. Oh well. Next time????
