Try taking a picture of Bill Cunningham, the industry gem who’s been riding his bicycle around snapping candid Street Style shots for decades now for his weekly The New York Times “On the Street” spread. While he’s on the prowl clicking away at NYC fashion trends, it’s like catching an elusive Cheshire cat.

The New York Times' Bill Cunningham

The adorable Bill Cunningham, a treasure of the fashion industry, snapping street style at the tents at MBFW

I tried to snap him while he was photographing this fashionable man before him at the tents this past week during MBFW, and I guess I was somewhat successful. But he’s just so damn good and quick!

Bill, always a smile on his face and a camera in his hands, modestly rushing off to the next trend

Bill, always a smile on his face and a camera in his hands, modestly rushing off to his next fashion sighting is too fast for me! Sorry, I always seem to snap you out of focus. I have so much to learn from this delightful and talented man.

Before his years at TNYTs, Bill worked with Annie Flanders’s Details MagazineWomen’s Wear Daily, he even designed hats! If you haven’t already caught the documentary about the man who documents everyone who’s fashionably dressed on the streets of Manhattan and its environs, see this trailer, then rent or buy the movie to own.

Bill Cunningham is his own category of fashion trend. He’s absolutely one of a kind.
