NYFW Watch: The Spring Summer 2018 Trends

Autumn may be striking the seasonal clock this Friday, but you, dear reader, can be ahead of the curve on all the upcoming trends for Spring/Summer 2018, after the wrap of New York Fashion Week this past Thursday.

Yes, that’s Fashion Whirled in front of The Standard after the Sandy Liang show, photographing You-Know-Who (shhhh, I mean stalking the wild Man Repeller, Leandra Medine)

How adorable is The Man Repeller, Leandra Medine

Just how flippin’ adorable is she, anyway?!!!!

Women’s fashion will be pretty and ultra feminine, with an athletic sportiness thrown in for good measure, and sheer to shiny designer manifestations key. Fanny packs made an unlikely return. But anything with sparkle plenty was fair game.

My Reset…on The Today Show!

I always loved playing the “so what did YOU do this summer?” game as a kid. It takes me back to back-to-school classes, seeing friends, shopping (because, fashion. It’s always all about the fashion, right?!), crisp fall days and that wistful feeling in the pit of your stomach when the last warm days wane and the darkness ebbs up closer and closer to dinner time.

This summer, I did some pretty spectacular things, if I do say so myself. For one thing, we traveled cross-country over the Fourth of July weekend towing an Airstream trailer that now resides up near our lake cabin. More about that later.

Airstreamin': heading out from Seattle at 3:30 a.m.

Airstreamin': heading out from Seattle at 3:30 a.m.

Oh. And I was featured on The Today Show through my story that ran on The Reset. The Today Show producers picked up the article for a series about Starting Over, and a crew came and interviewed me at home (yes, I was up all that week at 4 a.m. cleaning my ass off before heading into the office!). Then they followed me to a yoga class (and yes, I don’t know why I wore my worst yoga clothes and sandals with holes under the zippers!). I mixed up one of my favorite kale greenies and toasted the camera. Life is beautiful! Please view the video here.

So, here’s to resetting. For a new season. For school (I’m starting yoga TT in October! YAY!). For your health. For your career (full discloser: I just quit my full-time corporate job and will be concentrating on the Collection 13 Jewelry business). For over and over again, if you need. That little — or big — reset button makes every day better, makes you the best person you can be and makes you realize that this thing called life is about practice, not perfection.

Here’s to Aging Gracefully & Gratefully.

Be Well,

I couldn’t feel more honored or appreciated…. Guess who’s #ResetYour Ambassador over at The/Reset today?!  Me! And, yes, that’s me, below, SUPing on my head. There was a lot of resetting going on before I got to that point in that picture and to where I am today, even since writing that post. As part of the body positivity wellness movement, I still have a lot to accomplish and a long way to go. But maybe I can help inspire just one person to take similar steps. Please have a read here. Dive in, the water’s warm.

New York Men’s Day – A/W2017 Part 2

Last week’s New York Men’s Day afternoon session had a lot to say. The looks were wearable, street savvy and creative, with a definite message to the medium — and to the political world at large. Wood House took a stab at a twisted nursery rhyme. By Robert James kept the Women’s March and protestation moving, while Private Policy went straight for the political jugular, with a racial mix of models, a “suit” of flags and words like “terrorist” temporarily tattooed on foreheads.

New York Men’s Day – Part 1

Gooooood morning, menswear!

New York Men's DayNYFW: Men’s week kicked off Monday with the first half of  New York Men’s Day shows presented in the warren-like corporate-environ of Dune Studios in downtown Manhattan. The morning shows were a wearable lot with creativity, spunk and the requisite uniform and workwear inspiration. Take a look!

MensWearNetwork Gets Sweet at Maple NYC

What a way to welcome in the Autumn/Winter 2017 menswear season.

This past Tuesday night saw a wonderfully warm, intimate gathering at Maple NYC for the first MensWearNetwork event of 2017. Many dropped by after the MRKET / Vanguards Gallery show, among the other menswear market trade week shows of that day like Project and Liberty, and had quite positive things to say about the industry showcases, new fashions and crowds. Even in the nasty weather, many came to represent – designers, marketing execs, stylists, editors and the like. Really great to see, meet, re-greet the new, refreshing faces to the evening.

Looking forward to New York Men’s Day next week. Who’s ready for the gauntlet of wild fashions as the true style mavens walk this way?!

NYFW SS17: Desigual

Desigual is always one of my favorite shows during NYFW. Exuberant. Happy-making. Uplifting. And delightfully designed.

This season was no different. All about the “Global Traveller,” the show certainly transported those in the audience. Magical embroideries, prints, embellishments and crocheted textures.

Book my flight. I’m ready.

It May Be NYFW, But Don’t Forget About Menswear!

Bjorn Nasett, my fashion buddy (and general all-around great guy; you NEED to know him, too!) shared my menswear trend wrap up ideas with his Amazing Goodwill readers recently. As NYFW swings into full force this weekend, here’s a little wrap-up rewind of menswear love to balance out the women’s runway offerings!
